Doors open at Sugar Shack Donuts

There’s a new place in Richmond to get delicious donuts and coffee: Sugar Shack Donuts opens its doors this Tuesday.

Sugar Shack Donuts is set to open tomorrow after much delay. Owners Ian Kelly and Casey Ward will be offering fresh cake and yeast-style donuts to customers at their location on 1001 N. Lombardy Street, across from the Maggie Walker Governor’s School.

The shop’s opening was delayed after a series of unfortunate mishaps this spring, ranging from a delay in their inspection by the City of Richmond to plumbing problems, according to the business’s Facebook page. But after months of anticipation the small business is ready to open its doors to hungry, sweet-toothed locals.

Sugar Shack’s inspiration comes from Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, after owner Ian Kelley visited the shop and realized it offered something that Richmond didn’t have. After partnering with Casey Ward, the pair made their dream of bringing sweet and tasty treats to Richmond locals a reality. Sugar Shack Donuts will offer donuts, pastries, cheesecakes, biscuits, rolls, and coffee. Vegan, gluten free, and vegan gluten free donuts will also be on the menu.
