A new brewery in the region, Heritage’s delicious snack menu, and two restaurants set to reboot

Richmond’s restaurant rebooting frenzy continues, Secco supports the Summer of Riesling, a new brewery opens up in central Virginia, and more in this week’s food news.

It’s the Summer of Riesling! Which is totally a thing! Join the fine, wine-soaked folks down at Secco (the only Virginia-based Summer of Riesling participant) for a 94-day-long celebration of Riesling. They’ll be hosting events, serving flights, popping bottles, and dropping elbows. There’s also an all-Riesling “Acid Hour” every weekday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM (don’t tell the cops!).

Last week, central Virginia’s newest brewery, Rusty Beaver Brewery, opened it’s doors and taps to the thirsty public. While I can’t say I’m a fan of the double entendres associated with their name, I can say I’m excited for their brews to start showing up in RVA. Rust Beaver offers four beers: Roy’s Big Brad Brown Ale “Triple B”, Buck Tooth “Big Bite” IPA, Smashed Bastard, and The Quake Stout. It’s a variety of styles with something for everyone. If you see one of their beers on tap in town, please let me know!

Rust Beaver Brewery is located at 18043 Jefferson Davis Highway, and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 – 9:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 – 6:00 PM.

Tis the season for retooling, rebooting, and reimagining restaurants in Richmond! Lucky Buddha is the latest spot to (temporarily) close up shop for a bit while the owners rework the concept. Richmond.com is reporting that in a few weeks the Buddha will reopen as Society, “with an emphasis on food over nightlife.” After Society gets up and running, owner David Bess will give Cha Cha’s Cantina a similar makeover.

If there’s one thing we love, it’s snacks. And suddenly (finally?), Richmond is inundated with wonderful restaurants offering wonderful snack menus. Heritage joins the list1 with a delicious-looking snack menu that includes shrimp crackers ($2), a summer veg plate ($4), beef summer sausage ($5), a white anchovy pizza ($6), and a couple of other items. These delicious bites are available all night at the bar only, but if you wanted to pair it with happy hour (Tuesday – Saturday2, 5:00 – 7:00 PM) we wouldn’t blame you.
