VMFA spotlights Chinese cinema with special screening at The Byrd Sunday

The screening, in conjunction with the museum’s latest exhibit, begins at 1:30 PM.

In conjunction with its latest exhibit, ‘Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing,’ the Virginia Museum of Fine art is putting the spotlight on Chinese cinema with a screening of the sweeping historical epic, ‘Red Sorghum,’ at the Byrd Theatre this Sunday.

The film launched the career of director Zhang Yimou, who went on to make ‘Hero,’ ‘House of Flying Daggers,’ and the awe-inspiring 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony.

The screening begins at 1:30 PM at the Byrd Theatre in Carytown. Tickets are $5 in advance online and $6 at the door the day of the show. The box office opens at 1:00 PM Sunday.
