Photos: Southern Season Opens at Libbie Mill

Gourmet grocer features upscale goods, on-site cooking and wine classes, and in-house restaurant Southerly.

Gourmet grocer Southern Season opened its first Richmond location yesterday, July 31st, in the Libbie Mill development off Staples Mill Road.

With a huge selection of gourmet foods (like more than 500 hot sauces, 380 cheeses, 2,050 wines and 430 chocolate bars, to name a few), as well as upscale prepared foods, Southern Season is not your run-of-the-mill grocer.

The retailer offers on-site cooking and wine classes and demonstrations in its huge kitchen, and in-store restaurant Southerly serves up a variety of gourmet dishes both indoors and on an extensive patio.

Shoppers and curious residents flocked to the store Thursday morning, where parking was scarce (we had to park at an adjacent construction site) and Henrico Police directed traffic.

Southern Season is located at 2250 Staples Mill Road and open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, and Sundays from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
