When I think about what people in other cities will be doing this weekend, I feel bad for them. I also kind of want to shout “HA HA RVA RULES, SUCKERS!!!!” But I won’t because, well, that’s rude, and that’s not how we roll. We roll by having lots of fun. Suckers.

Anyway, here you go: 5 great things to do in Richmond this weekend…

1. Richmond Folk Festival

You might have heard that the Richmond Folk Festival is happening this weekend. Tons of performers and artisans showing off their respective crafts, great food and goodies, thousands of your fellow Richmonders having a grand old time…all for free! 2. Ashland Berry Farm: Haunted Evenings

This actually began last week, but now that it’s most definitely fall in Richmond, this weekend seems to be the perfect time to start partaking in all the spookiness this town has to offer. They’ve got three haunts: Booger Woods, Terror in the Barn, and Hell Hole. I wonder which one is the scariest…

• Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays from October 1 through October 31 (hayrides start at 7pm; tickets sold until 10pm)

3. Movies & Mimosas/Insomnia Theatre: Psycho

This film is so good, it’s being featured in BOTH of Movieland’s special screenings. That means you have four opportunities to be sufficiently terrified of showering.

• Friday, October 8 (11:30pm); Saturday, October 9 (11am and 11:30pm); Sunday, October 10 (11am)

4. 4th Annual Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome

Take part in a 1/2-mile advocacy walk, a 5K run, and/or a family festival to celebrate the abilities, accomplishments, and amazing spirits of people with Down Syndrome in the Greater Richmond area. There will also be special performances from the Henrico Concert Band, Miracles in Motion Dance Group, the Firecracker Cheerleaders, and more. And be sure to check out the pumpkin patch while you’re there!

5. Girls in Science Camp-in

Smart girls are awesome! For this event, middle school girls will join forces with professional women scientists “to confront challenges and find solutions to common problems faced by scientists and engineers.” For every 4 girls, one adult chaperone is required and admitted free, and pre-registration is required. Call 804.864.1400 for details.

• Saturday, October 9 through Sunday, October 10 (call above number for specific times)

• $10 per girl (additional adults are $10 each)
