Don’t worry about the kids being bored at the Folk Festival this weekend! There is plenty for them to do, thanks to Genworth Financial and the Children’s Museum of Richmond.
Don’t worry about the kids being bored at the Folk Festival this weekend! There is plenty for them to do, thanks to Genworth Financial and the Children’s Museum of Richmond.
The National Park Service will have 19th century children’s games set up in the family area. Kids can learn to play cat’s cradle, cup and ball, French hoops, and more. Virginia’s elite Yo-Yo artists will also be on hand to conduct workshops and demonstrations, or kids can get acqainted with exotic birds from Parrots of Paradise.
Throughout the weekend, you artists can contribute to an “interactive sculpture” of a windmill, with the guidance of local artist Matt Lively. Other art projects include windsock and fan making stations, bird puppets and the return CMoR’s snazzy paper bag hats.
Once the kids complete an art project, they can head to an open air market and exchange “Seymour dollars” for prizes.
JAMinc, the non-profit started by Programming Commitee member Tim Timberlake will provide local entertainment for the family area. Local artists performing in the Folk Festival include The Company Store, The Texican Gringos Band, and more.
