So, you didn’t get tickets to Jerry Seinfeld? What’s up with that? And what’s the deal with all these holiday things, like art markets and tacky light tours? It’s like, “Hey, we’ve got plays and roller skating to do!” Am I right? Come on!
In the Venn diagram of life, do you land in the middle of “like the artwork of local artists, including adorable and talented children” and “wonder what the eff you’re going to do about Christmas shopping”? Stop by Atlas, the ART 180 exhibition space, and pick up those really unique gifts by people who support ART 180 as well as the kids themselves.
- Through Friday, December 19th • 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- ART 180, 114 W. Marshall Street
- Free to browse!
Neil Simon, who is NOT Neil Diamond (I really thought that for ages and ages…the guy seemed like he had a surprising number of talents), wrote the book for this Tony-nominated musical. A guy and a gal–one writes music and the other writes the words–team up to find success…AND LOVE? If you like music, success, words, guys, gals, AND LOVE, or maybe Neil Simon/Diamond, get those tickets now.
- Thursday, December 11th – Sunday, January 4th • see site for times
- Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Road
- $40 or thereabouts
I have learned so much about basketball this season. I know what “in the paint” means, and also “and one,” and also “alley-oop.” And I’ll say this: I sure wish there were more of the latter, because they are dang fun to watch. The Rams are exciting to watch this season, even for n00bs like myself. Sometimes they are down and out, and sometimes they are radiant and inspiring. Which one will it be this Saturday against the University of Northern Iowa (they’re #23 and it’s a back-to-back…wait, let me refer to my notes from people who know better than I do…ok, a back-to-back home games against top 25 times. Did I get that right?).
- Saturday, December 13th • 7:00 PM
- Stuart C. Siegel Center, 1200 W. Broad Street or on NBCSN, whatever that is
- $25 to attend!
For awhile there, the holidays seemed to be getting a little TOO close to being only about tacky lights. And now, thanks be, they’re now just about ugly Christmas sweaters. Hooray! Get your fix, and give your fellow man the courtesy of staring at their ridiculous houses and wondering how they sleep at night…with those lights on outside, I mean. It’s like Christmas morning up in that piece every hour of the day. Which…actually…sounds like a pretty cool idea to me. Off to the tacky light shop! TTYL!
- Saturday, December 13th • 6:00 PM
- Mid-Lothian Mines Park (no really! with a hyphen!), 13301 N. Woolridge Road
- $35 – $50
You may remember Lamplighter co-owner Noelle Archibald from our RVANews Live Event last month, and you may also remember that she used to be in a bicycle dance troupe. That doesn’t really have too much to do with Lamplighter’s grand wheeling anniversary, which promises laser tag, roller skating, and a dance party, as if the holidays weren’t enough to give you a joy-induced aneurysm. Celebrate what I keep hearing is the best coffee in town, and also celebrate skating, laser tag, and dancing, because seriously.
- Sunday, December 14th • 7:00 – 10:00 PM
- Rollerdome, 4902 Williamsburg Road
- $9 with a portion of the proceeds going to RideRichmond
