Quite a nice little sampling of Richmond happenings for you this weekend. And don’t worry, we won’t make you O.D. on Halloween fun…YET. Here you go: 5 things guaranteed to bring you good times over the next few days.

1. Friday Films: Dead Snow

Nazi-zombies stalking Norwegian med students. Because, why not?

• Friday, October 22 (6:30pm to 9pm)
• Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Leslie Cheek Theatre (200 N. Boulevard)
• $7 ($5 for VMFA members)

2. InLight Richmond

On Friday night, Shockoe Slip will play host to the third annual InLight Richmond exhibit, headed up by 1708 Gallery and showcasing 37 light-inspired works from 60 artists. Festivities will begin with a Community Lantern Parade (learn how to build your own lantern here) and will also include a wearable art show at later on in the evening. Meanwhile, several Shockoe Slip restaurants are offering special $17.08 dishes (in honor of InLight host, 1708 Gallery). • Shockoe Slip; Community Lantern Parade participants should meet James Center’s Atrium at 12th Street and Cary Street at 7pm

3. Monster Mashquerade

Ok, a little Halloween won’t kill you. Stop by the Camel for an evening of great music (live and from some of Richmond’s favorite DJ’s) and crazy costume fun, all to benefit WRIR 97.3 FM Richmond Independent Radio. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume, and masks are required.

• Friday, October 22 (9pm)
• The Camel (1621 W. Broad Street)
• $5 to $10 donation suggested

4. Meadow Highland Games & Celtic Festival

Big dudes in kilts throwing stuff. Plus: beer, whiskey, music, and more Celtic-inspired fun than you can shake a stick at.

• Saturday, October 23 (9am to 6pm) and Sunday, October 24 (9am to 5pm)
• The Meadow Event Park (Exit 98 off off I-95, one mile east of Kings Dominion)
• One-day advance tickets are $14 ($19 if purchased after 5pm on October 22); Two-day tickets are $27

5. Mingus Awareness Project

After taking a year off, Richmond superstar Brian Jones has brought the Mingus Project back to town. Held in honor of jazz legend Charles Mingus, the Mingus Project brings together top notch jazz figures to raise funds and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Mingus died from the disease in 1979. For more what our jazz editor has dubbed “the event of the year” check out our coverage from earlier this week.

• Sunday, October 24 (7pm)
• Richmond CenterStage’s Rhythm Hall (600 E. Grace Street)
• $22 (with proceeds going to ALS research)
