We’re calling this a homicide because it has been officially termed as such by the Richmond Police Department. Before you tell us we’ve missed one–was it actually a death investigation (often self-defense)? Was it within city limits? Did the person die of wounds received in a different year? All of those deaths do not get officially counted as Richmond homicides for this year.

Victim

Wayne M. Smith, Jr., age 34 of the 6300 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

The Incident

  • Where: 6346 Midlothian Turnpike on Southside
  • When: Friday, April 30th at or around 6:17 PM
  • Weapon: Gun. Mr. Smith was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the courtyard of the Richmond Inn & Suites. He died at the hospital.

The Investigation

According to the police, there are very strong leads.
