The Henrico Citizen recently ran a feature on the dedication of the new home of Lakeside’s Fire Station No. 5:

Shortly after Lakeside’s Fire Station No. 5 took occupancy of a new building on Lakeside Avenue in 1961, firefighter Dick McClure helped plant two small willow oak trees on the station’s front lawn. Last week – 47 years later – McClure stood in the shadows of the trees, which have become a Lakeside landmark, and watched as county officials dedicated another new building for the fire station.

The rebuilt fire house contains nearly 7,500 square feet of space and is much roomier than the previous structure, which station officials had outgrown years ago. The Lakeside station is one of the busiest in the county, having responded to about one-tenth of the 38,000 calls for service received by the Division of Fire last year.
