2007 East End homicides

According to the RPD’s Crime Incident Information site, there were 16 homicides in the 1st Precinct in 2007. This is down from 30 homicides in 2006 and 32 homicides in 2005.

Another drive-by shooting

NBC12 reports that a Petersburg home was hit by 13 bullets on Christmas Eve. The article notes that the homeowner (Troy Johnson) and another individual were home at the time, and are unharmed.

free first-time homebuyers class at East End library

The RTD’s Housing 101 a helpful class looks at the free first-time homebuyers class offered monthly at the East End library. Freda Green-Bolling, the VHDA-certified trainer who leads the sessions, herself bought a house in Fairmount through the Neighborhoods in Bloom program program and Better Housing Coalition.

demolition at Cold Storage

As announced back in June, the work to turn Cold Storage into more than 300 apartments, restaurants, and a brewery has apparently begun with the demolition of the old ice house.
