Locally-produced documentary wins Emmy

A documentary about political gridlock–produced by Community Ideas Station and UVA’s Center for Politics–earned an Emmy award.

The locally-produced documentary Out of Order (see below) won an Emmy award for Best Topical Documentary on June 15th at the 55th Annual Emmy Awards dinner in Baltimore, MD.

Those interviewed for the 30-minute documentary include journalist Bob Schieffer, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), Sen. Susan Collins (R-MA), Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN), and Sen. John Warner (R-VA), among others.

“We thank the Academy for recognizing the work of the Center for Politics and our great partners at the Community Ideas Stations,” said Larry Sabato, the documentary’s producer. “It will take a lot more than an award-winning film to change the behavior of Congress, but I hope we’ve helped citizens think about what they can do to improve the situation.”

Over 180 PBS Stations around the country have aired Out of Order in recent months.

The documentary Out of Order: Civility in Politics, about political gridlock in Washington, D.C., has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Topical Documentary. The documentary was produced by the local Community Idea Stations and the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.

Out of Order has aired on more than 180 PBS stations across the country in past months, including top markets such as Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

Winners will be announced at the 55th Annual Emmy Awards dinner in Baltimore on June 15th.
