Richmond Christmas tree lots and farms
You may want a tannenbaum. Here’s where you can get them in RVA.

The kids want a tree. Your girlfriend wants a tree. Your roommate wants a tree. Your mom feels like you should have a tree. Whoever it is telling you to get a tree, you just want to be home playing video games as quickly as possible. Just a warning, though: once you get that sucker up in your living room, you’re going to be really proud.
Your local large grocery store
Roll up for some sweet, sweet Kroger brand string cheese or White House Rolls at Martin’s, leave with the centerpiece of your holiday experience. Most grocery stores offer trees, and I’ve had some plenty happy memories around a Kroger tree. I don’t know what they are or where they’re from, but they look like evergreen triangles and they have the right smell, so just take them home, drape some string cheese on them, and call it a day if you wanna.
Your corner lot
Just drive around. You’re bound to see the old, traditional “string lights between a couple of poles while a guy named Larry in overalls commands a cold-looking teen to put your tree in a net.” It’s wise to have some cash on you, but not too much cash. You don’t want Larry charging you more because he thinks you’re a high roller. Try corner lots, hardware store lots, shopping center lots…lots in general.
Interest level: Thumbs up
Trees! Yes! You will happily go get a tree, as long as it doesn’t take up your entire day, because there’s a ton of other things to do. Ugh, where’s that stand again? Might as well buy a new one!
Chesterfield Berry Farm Market
Whoa whoa whoa, this site was JUST in terrifying hayride mode! And now it’s a winter wonderland! CBF’s fraser firs are grown in Virginia, and they’ll sell you a wreath too, if you’re willing. You can find tiny three-foot trees to massive 13-foot ones, which you are unlikely to get at the Krogz.
- Open Monday – Thursday, 10:30 AM – 5:00 PM and Friday – Sunday, 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- 26002 Pear Orchard Road, Moseley
- Check back on their coupon page for deals (maybe)
Sneed’s Nursery
This super-helpful nursery has made a name for itself because of its “You can do it!” attitude towards black-thumbed customers. What it doesn’t believe you can grow, I suppose, is your own dang Christmas tree! Because it furnishes those for you! But that’s OK, their cute shop has ornaments, wreaths, and the like.
- Open Monday – Saturday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday, 12:00 – 5:00 PM
- 8756 Huguenot Road
Jaycees Christmas Tree Lot
The Richmond Jaycees have organized this Christmas tree lot for, like, a half-century. They’ve got their trees nicely organized, their wheelbarrows ready, their trunk-trimming tools sharpened, but you’ll need to bring cash or a checkbook. At least, that was the jam last year.
- Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season
- 1600 W. Laburnum Avenue
Azalea Garden Center
Big trees! Small trees! Wreaths! These guys will sell you a little Frasier fir or a 12-footer, they don’t care! Take it all! They’ll even help you secure it!
- Monday – Saturday, 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM and Sunday, 12:00 – 5:00 PM
- 1320 Westbrook Avenue
Interest level: Santa Hat + Jingle Bell Necklace + Very Large Smile
THE STAND IS RIGHT HERE! I POLISH IT EVERY SINGLE DAY IN ANTICIPATION OF THIS VERY MOMENT!
The Great Big Greenhouse
This huge gardening and outdoors center will provide you with much more than just a tree–it’ll provide you with Santa photos, trains, poinsettias, prizes, and a whole bunch of other decorative cheer.
- Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Sunday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 2051 Huguenot Road
Lloyd Family Farms
“Visit our horses,” says Lloyd Family Farms’ website. “Sometimes they smile when they smell peppermint on your breath!” While that might send shivers up and down your spine, you’ll quickly be made more comfortable by the hot cider, hot chocolate, and hot, hot wreaths, swags, and other gorgeous rustic holiday decor. Oh, and trees of course. Contact them in advance for special orders (this includes trees larger than 11 feet or fruit-adorned wreaths. One of both, please!)
- Saturdays and Sundays through December 20th, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- 12204 Pinhook Road, Rockville
Interest level: Lumberjack
You sit back, quietly judging your friends as they talk about the fun times they had selecting and driving home a tree. You smirk a little, knowing that the only true Christmas tree is one that you ripped from the ground with your own hands and lashed to the roof of your family car yourself.
Windy Knoll Farm
White pines (long needles) and Scotch pines (short needles) bravely await their fate. They can neither run, nor hide–they just sit and stare and wait for the feeling of saw upon bark! Upon arrival, “you will be greeted, given a hand bow saw, and offered a wagon ride to the fields.”
- Friday, 1:00 – 5:00 PM and Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- 10094 Windy Knoll Drive, Mechanicsville
Olde Church Christmas Tree Farm
Wield your saw mightily or ask one of the Olde Church olde employees to cut it for you–either way is hip and cool at this Christmas tree farm in Powhatan. “Free tree shaking for a clean tree,” because your gorgeous woodland Christmas theme does not take into account actual live animals tearing up your living room, I’ll bet.
- Saturdays and Sundays through December 20th, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- 2204 Old Church Road, Powhatan
