The Richmond Hope Foundation is looking for volunteers for next week’s “Lose the Training Wheels” program.

“Lose the Training Wheels” teaches children with disabilities how to ride conventional two-wheeled bicycles. Up to this point, these kids have been unable to ride bikes due to their specific conditions. The kids range in ages from 8 to 18. Some are patients at the Richmond Hope Therapy Center, while others are simply from the surrounding communities.

“Lose the Training Wheels” is scheduled to take place from August 9 to 13 at the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness (28 Westhampton Way in University of Richmond). This event requires around 12 volunteers for each 90 minute session. Sessions times are Monday through Friday:

  • 8:15 AM – 9:45 AM
  • 9:45 AM- 11:20 AM
  • 11:20 AM – 12:55 PM
  • 1:40 PM – 3:15 PM
  • 3:15 PM – 4:50 PM

Check out the volunteer requirements:

  • 16 years or older
  • Willing and able to run next to a child on a bike
  • Committed to coming all five days for one session (1.5 hours per day)

If you are interested in helping out, please contact Kristen Burden at 804-747-4673 or hopebikecamp@comcast.net.
