The Richmond Folk Festival has announced the third round of performers…

Joining the already exciting festival lineup:

Direct from the remote Republic of Tuva in Central Asia, Khogzhumchu performs the ethereal tones of xöömei (throat-singing). On its first trip to the United States, this young quartet will captivate audiences with the unique vocal style of their home region, known for the amazing production of two or more distinct tones by one vocalist.

Jamaican reggae legend and former member of the Gladiators, Clinton Fearon and his Boogie Brown Band from Takoma, Washington, deliver a rock-solid groove with a strong message.

Aubrey Ghent is one the true masters of the sacred steel-style of gospel music. His impressive lap steel guitar playing can evoke soaring, religious fervor and deep, soul-stirring emotion. Along with his wife on vocals and his powerhouse band, this American master is not to be missed.

From Miami, Florida La Gran Banda bring the danceable sound of the Colombian village brass papayera band. This group combines brass instruments and Afro-Caribbean percussion to play the porro, cumbia, vallenato, fandango, and paseo music of their home country.

Master storyteller Lloyd Arneach is a bearer of the deep traditions of the Eastern Band Cherokee of North Carolina. He will be keeping children of all ages rapt with stories drawn from his heritage, and those he has written himself.

A longtime collaborator with Wylie Gustafson, former rodeo cowboy and master cowboy poet Paul Zarzyski will join Wylie both in a full band setting, and in stripped downs sets focusing on wordplay. Paul’s mastery of language, humor, and deep emotion has elevated his craft. While he might start out seeing the world from atop his stride, his poetic vision touches on all levels of the human condition.
