Some of you might not be aware of this, but a group of people has been camped out at Monroe Park for a spell to draw attention to The Rescue*, a country-wide demonstration intended to draw attention to the child soldiers of Uganda.

The basic idea is that different groups of people gather to represent those children being forced into military service in Uganda. The group must then be “rescued” by 1) getting local media coverage of their presence and 2) having a celebrity/politician/some sort of big-up around arrive and acknowledge what they’re doing. All of this draws attention to the cause, raising awareness, and hopefully putting steps into motion to put an end to the exploitation.

We’ve got word from an insider that a certain someone performing at The National tonight might be making plans to rescue the group in Richmond today. It’d be nice if some local government figures made an appearance as well.

*FYI, the site has been having trouble today, so you might not be able to get it to load. Keep trying!
