We all know about the Snow Queen. She hangs out with the Legendary Santa and showers Richmond kiddies with snow and glitter and holiday spirit, right?

The Children’s Museum of Richmond has decided to make even better use of this popular Richmond figure.

Each year they will be selecting an area high school junior girl to serve as Snow Queen throughout the year.

According to a press release from CMoR, “The new Snow Queen program was created by the Children’s Museum to develop a figure that can serve as a role model to young children, to expand the role of the Snow Queen past the holiday season and to offer a tremendous educational assistance opportunity to area students.”

2010’s Snow Queen is Alicia Talley from Deep Run High School. Alicia is team captain of a year-round USS Swim team, serves as an assistant coach for a junior swim team, plays lacrosse, and is a member of Deep Run’s Wind Ensemble. In addition Ms. Talley participated in a 27-hour dance marathon for charity, and is the volunteer coordinator of her key club. Alicia recently received a Girl Scouts Gold Award and in her ‘Environmental Classroom on the Go,’ she taught children about carbon footprints, recycling, and ways to help the environment.

Well, I feel inadequate. Athletics, music, community service, and now A QUEEN? Talk about well-rounded.

In addition to snagging the title, Ms. Talley also received a $1,000 college scholarship.

Ms. Talley will be officially named Snow Queen 2010 at this Saturday’s Snow Day Festival at CMoR. After being crowned, she will be hosting a story time with the kidlets.
