Richmond among top cities for new college graduates
Bloomberg Businesweek has named Richmond the 25th best city for new college graduates.
Bloomberg Businesweek has named Richmond the 25th best city for new college graduates, based on the number of entry-level employers, average annual pay, cost of living index, and unemployment rates.

Manufacturing, federal and state agencies, and educational institutions are among the reasons there are jobs in Richmond, even during periods that are difficult for the rest of the country. In recent years, semiconductor manufacturing has played a particularly important role in the city’s economy.

A total of 30 cities were featured with Houston taking the top spot because of its low unemployment rate (and despite it’s lack of entry-level positions). San Antonio slid in at the number 24 spot ahead of Richmond, thanks to its large number of military bases which employ members of the service and civilians alike.
The list was compiled using information from the website AfterCollege.com and data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on each city’s average annual pay and unemployment. Cost of living statistics were also obtained from the Council for Community & Economic Research.

Whoever wrote that article neglected to notice that most (if not all) of those plants have closed, plumetting thousands of people into the workforce who need to be re-educated and/or re-trained.
