The Labor Department is reporting that the jobless rate in Virginia hit a 17-year high of 6% in January (up a full percentage point from December ’08). Depressing. How you guys doing out there?

Laid off from LandAm early Nov. Still no job. Was offered a contractor position from CapOne, but after I accepted it, they put the position on hold and I’m still not working. We also own a small business that is largely funded from our salaries. It’s really hurting now as food and mortgage get first dibs. Really depressing.

  2. Oh that’s just so frustrating and scary.

  3. Lost my job on November 12. Incorporated my new business on January 1. Busier than I’ve ever been. Having a great time. Meeting awesome people. During the first two months of 2009, I made about 4% of what I earned the first two months of 2008. Optimistic and broke. Haven’t been in that space since 1995.

Laid off December 3rd. Had several interviews in past 3 months – nothing yet. There’s such a glut of people out there with few opportunities right now – definitely a buyer’s market which sucks! At least Richmond’s not Ohio yet – 700 people applied for 1 janitor job – fuckin ridiculous!

  5. How low will it go? Scary. I don’t know anyone who isn’t feeling the pinch. Even if you have a job, you need more than one to make ends meet. I have four part-time gigs myself. I would love to have a single job. That would be swell. If any one of my four jobs fails to fall by the wayside, I’m base vernacular for fornication in the past tense.

    Homey got bills to pay…
