Party at the SunTrust Marathon, win some bucks

In an effort to boost entertainment and excitement along the SunTrust Marathon route, the RTD has created a “Community Cheer Challenge.”

I’m not what you call “a runner”, but I love runners; their determination and commitment impress me to no end. I applaud their efforts and will hoot and holler for them until I’m blue in the face (or until they cross that finish line, whatever comes first).

If you’re anything like me, you don’t have to feel left out when the SunTrust Marathon rolls around on November 13th. In fact, you even have the opportunity to win some cash.

In an effort to boost entertainment and excitement along the marathon route, the RTD has created a “Community Cheer Challenge.”

“We wanted to create a way for groups like boy scouts and girl scouts, fraternities and sororities, neighborhood associations and church groups, and everyone in between to get involved,” said Leah Harms, Sports Backers entertainment coordinator in a press release. “The Richmond Times-Dispatch Community Cheer Challenge does just that, and ultimately, boosts the course support for runners.”

Basically, the best party wins. Here’s how the prizes break down:
1st place – $500
2nd place – $300
3rd place – $200
4th through 12th places – $100

Not too shabby, huh?

The RTD Community Cheer Challenge will give each register party $250 (via reimbursement) to go towards their supplies. You must register in advance to qualify for reimbursement.
