What is the best/most important/most useful lesson YOUR MOM (geez, that never gets old!) has taught you?

Personally, I think I’ve hugely benefited from my mother’s insistence* that I say “Yes, ma’am” or “No, ma’am.” While some people are thrown off by it, I have yet to encounter someone who was offended by it – how can you be mad at someone who is so overtly polite?

*And by “insistence” I mean “threatening me with violence should I opt not to do so.”
