I know one of you has got to be a French film savant

If so, please peruse the schedule of films at this year’s annual French Film Festival, and tell me how to prioritize. I don’t even know where to begin, and I can’t go to the entire thing! OR CAN I?? (NO.)

  1. Susan:

It’s simple: just look at the plot descriptions and go see something you think you might like! French or not, this is how we all pick movies. Since none of us will have seen these films, there’s not much in the way of word of mouth. So there’s a risk involved, that of $10 and about two hours of your life.

If you’re an early riser, you could check out the shorts on Saturday and Sunday morning…if you don’t like one, you may like the next, and some people have told me these were among the best of the festival’s offerings. But 8 a.m. is not my favorite time to watch movies; during the weekends, that’s still REM cycle time.

  2. Most of the films are premiering in America for the first time, so I would just pick from whatever sounds the most interesting to you.

  3. I should have clarified: World, tell me if you can recommend any of these directors so I can go see their movie and listen to them talk about it afterwards.

  4. werent they featuring a movie with audrey tautou? Shes the only french actress i know so i should have seen it to feel cultured… like i follow something going on over there or something.
