HandsOn Greater Richmond 2009 is happening THIS Saturday, October 17th. Volunteers will be giving their time to various service projects all over the city in a big o’l wonderful joint effort to help make Richmond better.

They are still in need of volunteers, so if you’re interested in helping out, stop by their website to see what your service opportunities are. Local blogging giants (that’s a funny image) John Murden and John Sarvay are leading up teams at Armstrong High School and Holton Elementary respectively, if your looking to have an encounter with some local celebs. But there are also plenty of other projects from which you can choose.

But wait, there’s more!

RVANews will be running on-going coverage of HandsOn Greater Richmond throughout the day on Saturday. We’ll be pulling in both tweets and Flickr images tagged with HOGR09 (that’s the letters H, O, G, and R and the numbers zero and nine). The idea is to get a wide sampling of what’s going on around town through accounts from people who are actually there, rolling up their sleeves, and doing the work. So tweet and click away, and use those tags well. We look forward to seeing what everyone contributes.
