Closest, with easiest walk, may be Mamma Zu’s

  2. Good suggestion! I’ve added it to the list.

    Feel free to share more!

  3. Why not just allow these people to make a living and note that there are a HUGE number of vendors there? Why not just eat there, and why try to detract those who are there or going, by steering them elsewhere?

  4. Fred, you’ll notice that we linked to the list of vendors which we’ve had up for a couple weeks. But some people might prefer other options (or like today, get a chance to take a break from the rain). They’ll still be visiting local businesses, which we encourage.

I’m just trying to point out that if the vendors do good, they come back, if the event is a success, then it comes back, if it does not due to people leaving to seek service and such elsewhere, then there is a distinct chance they may not come back, and this thing goes on once per year…. over one thousand volunteers, almost 2 million bucks to put together, and many hours in planning. We all should be doing everything we can to help those who participate and take many weeks of preparing for keeping their hot holding and cold holding temps, proper preparation, investment in supplies to feed visitors, to see it pay off for them. If they lose een one customer, they lose, period. I understand the mission behind your article, but these area eating spots don’t have nearly the challenge of the food vendors that are there, and these three days should be about them, not taking their efforts and trying to steer people elsewhere.

Here’s a thought @Fred – $7.00 for a cheese burger, $6.00 for a sausage and $4.00 for a hot dog. They lost this customer because of their prices. The volunteers have been wonderful and the music has been fantastic! The vendors? Over priced at best. We will NOT be eating at the festival anymore.

I bought funnel cake, and 2 beers, which came to $15. I got a $4 ice tea. I paid $10 for a ‘small’ but really huge fish boat from the Croaker’s Spot vendor, which may have been the best value there. Croaker’s Spot is awesome.

But since a lot of Folk Fest attendees park in my neighborhood, I am all for them also helping neighborhood businesses. Let’s face it, for some of these people, its like the one of maybe three trips they make to the inner city.

My wish for the vendors is that they do more with recyclable/biodegradable materials. It’s 2009, folks. More about that later…

The Festival was great, as always. Easily one of the best things that happens in RIchmond. I dropped my donation in the bucket and bought form vendors even though I could have just as easily walked home and fixed myself a sandwich.

  8. I second Scott’s comment. At the previous year’s Folk Fest, the prices dwarfed the portions and we wound up spending way too much trying to get a full meal. However, there wasn’t any admission charge, so it was only a little irksome. Anyhow, the FolkFest directed some infrequent traffic through our city, so why shouldn’t those folks make a day of enjoying downtown?

Was there a shuttle bus that would take RFF vistors to the Indian Festival or the Italian Festival? Personally, I would have enjoyed that also. I usually do not miss the Indian Festival.
