I can’t decide, so I’ll nominate 3 posts for Post of the Year:
Made in Richmond: When I First Felt Pity @ http://madeinrichmond.net/when-i-first-felt-pity-or-how-i-sometimes-get-sad-when-i-eat-homemade-sandwiches/ Sometimes you get a post from someone you don’t know that makes you think you know them a little bit.
Made in Richmond: No one knows anything @ http://madeinrichmond.net/no-one-knows-anything-an-aggravation-in-two-parts/ Rolled. On. The. Floor. Laughing. Seriously.
This Young House: Counter Intelligence @ http://www.thisyounghouse.com/2008/09/counter-intelligence/ I’ve not yet had to use this information, but it’s awesome to have. If their blog had been created this year instead of 2k7, I’d nominate them for best new blog.
For Best New Blog, I would nominate two:
Raising Richmond @ http://raisingrichmond.com/ I know, it probably looks like I’m crazy for Catrows, but you guys are both excellent writers. I think I’m actually learning how to better write diary type posts from both of you.
Shirley Anne’s Heart @ http://www.shirleyannesheart.com/ This could probably be nominated in Best Kept Secret, too. If you’re not a quilter and not related to her (she’s my mother-in-law), you probably wouldn’t know about this blog. She doesn’t only write about quilting, but the site is heavily weighted on that topic. Very interesting read.
Best Overall Blog would have to be Tobacco Avenue @ http://tarichmond.com/
I have to confess, I rarely get out of my RSS reader. So, I don’t know which posts had the best comment threads.
New Blog – WhineMeDineMe
Secret – RVAFoodie
Comment Thread – N/A
Post of the Year – Where Richmond Eats: a Very Scientifc Poll
Best Overall Blog – WhineMeDineMe
Best New Blog: 86 Richmond
Best Kept Secret: Auspicious Jots
Best Comment Thread: http://the804.com/blog/?p=219 (a quip in Style prompts food bloggers into defensive mode; an pretty interesting discussion ensues)
Post of the Year: http://caramelizedopinions.blogspot.com/2008/04/april-showers-brings-statistical.html (Post of “My Year” mind you, but it’s not really all about me)
Best Overall Blog: http://stakolee.blogspot.com/
well. who do i send the check to?
Best New Blog: WhineMeDineMe
Best Kept Secret: TVJerry, Munch (fast start)
Best Comment Thread: King’s Retreat on CHPN (google it)
Post(s) of the Year: Garden of Word’s Journey from Unemployment to starting a new business…
Best Overall Blog Richmond Magazine’s The Hat
I’ll self-nominate behind Ed’s recommendation for “Best Comment Thread” and put up CHPN’s “King’s Maidens? 3700 East Broad? WTF?” (http://chpn.net/news/2008/09/09/kings-maidens-3700-east-broad-wtf/). A great mix of community reporting, insanity, piss, AND vinegar. And then more insanity.
would it be out of line to add a most missed blog? awkward things i say .. he really needs to get back on the saddle on that one. just asking.
Best New Blog: Jack Goes Forth
Best Kept Secret: Buttermilk & Molasses
Post of the Year: “NBC12 anchor Gene Cox pissed he didn’t make Style’s Power List” at Tobacco Avenue at http://tarichmond.com/2008/07/23/sources-nbc12-anchor-gene-cox-pissed-he-didnt-make-styles-power-list/
Best New Blog: Can you nominate yourself? No? Um, well, not sure on this one then.
Best Kept Secret: The Kesler Expressler (http://keslerexpressler.wordpress.com/). Probably not supposed to be hilarious yet I find it so.
Best Comment Thread: Jack gets fired (http://jackgoesforth.blogspot.com/2008/10/fired-for-blogging-about-mayorial.html)
Post of the Year: TA publisher dies (http://tarichmond.com/2008/12/05/tobacco-avenue-publisher-killed-in-plane-crash-is-dead/) cause some people actually believed TA was done.
Best Overall Blog: Tobacco Avenue
I’ll nominate my mother-in-law for Best Kept Secret: http://www.shirleyannesheart.com. If you’re not a quilter, you’ve never heard of her, but there’s enough diary type writing to go along with it, and she’s really funny. This also secures my nomination for Best Son-In-Law :)
I had a previous comment, but I think it must have had too many URLs in it for Akisment.
Also for a hypothetical most missed: lil scabz

Guys, I LOVE Kelly Stern.
I must confess that Ross and I once saw him driving and we both gasped and said “THAT’S KELLY STERN!”
you guys wouldn’t happen to drive a vehicle with haduken on the plates?
Val –
I also am a Kelly Stern fan.
I’ve been reading his blog for a few years. I started when I worked at Gold’s Gym. I often had a similar experience of “OMG, It’s Kelly Stern” when he came in to work out.
Sadly, I never got the courage to introduce myself.

Kelly Stern lived in my neighborhood (or vice versa) and sightings of the rambling one were still always a treat. Maybe this thread will inspire an ongoing topic over at the Northside community blog (the new Stern stomping grounds).

I guess Jack Goes Forth for something, even though I think he’s a jerk
Garden of Words blog for having a drama baby this year
Okay so now for an honest opinion from a non-blogging sane person.
The three most read and most popular blogs are TA, Buttermilk and Jack Goes Forth.
Give em all blue ribbons and lets get this stupid blog kiss-ass over with.
Best: The Checkout Girl. Seriously good. http://thecheckoutgirl.wordpress.com/
I second The Checkout Girl hands down. http://www.thecheckoutgirl.net. Time for some new stuff in RVA! :)
@John
Oh. My. Gawd. thecheckoutgirl is my new favorite blog. Simply. Awesome.
Best New Blog: Whine Me Dine Me
Best Kept Secret: This Is It
Best Overall Blog: Jack Goes Forth
Best: TA. That guy is so prolific! How does he keep it fresh?
Secret: I read Brie Knows Things a lot, but I also like Blaaaagh. Both seem pretty under the radar. Also check out “Richmond Needs An Enema”. Taylor in RVA is somewhat entertaining too, although it’s mostly because she’s hot.
New: TA is new, TA is the best. So logic would tell us that he should win this one also.
This isn’t a feel good contest, it’s a cold, efficient way for the 40 or so people who read blogs in this city to pick their favorite.
Also anyone who put themselves up for any category should get beaten up with their own shoe. My eyes are mostly on Foodie, although he wasn’t the only culprit in that department.
Another idea: A separate category for Food Bloggers. By my last count we have 179 of them now, and at least 60 review the same thing every month or so. In fact lets just go ahead and create RVAFoodBlogs.
New Blog – WhineMeDineMe
