Back in action: 5 things…

We know you’ve missed it so, but with our music editor on a “sabbatical” and me being out for a while “birthing a child,” it took us a while to get our collective acts together. But here we are once again. 5 THINGS GO! 1. First Fridays An oldie but a goodie. And excellent news: […]

We know you’ve missed it so, but with our music editor on a “sabbatical” and me being out for a while “birthing a child,” it took us a while to get our collective acts together. But here we are once again. 5 THINGS GO!

1. First Fridays

An oldie but a goodie. And excellent news: the high on Friday is a balmy 48 degrees, so your lungs won’t freeze! One featured exhibit is Style Weekly’s Unboxed series at Ghostprint Gallery. Gallery 5 will also be introducing their Non-Profit Showcase. Friday Feburary 6th, Broad Street, FREE!

2. The 5 Browns

As the New York Post describes them, “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years.” I KNOW! Hopefully there will be a lot of banter and inside family jokes. How could hilarity NOT ensue? Saturday February 7th, 7:30pm, Camp Concert Hall at UR, $38 adults, $36 seniors, $19 children, $30 UR employees, $8 UR students.

3. 9th Annual Kids’ Carniball

Is the Children’s Museum implying that this is a combination of a carnival and a ball? Or is it a carnival SO FUN that you’re guaranteed to have a BALL? Either way, it sounds fantastic. It includes live music, delicious food, and that wonder of wonders: FACE PAINTING. Cuteness is guaranteed, as is the fact that if I were there I would be getting my face painted to look like Spider-Man. Saturday February 7th, 4pm to 8pm, 2626 West Broad Street, $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers, kids under 2 are free!

4. VCU Homecoming Basketball Game vs. William & Mary

The Rams take on the Tribe Saturday and you can bet your sweet bippy that RVANews is going to be there. Saturday February 7th, 7:30pm, Alltel Pavilion, 1200 West Broad Street. Purchase tickets online here.

5. Sideways Stories from Wayside School

Guys! You remember this book. The school was BUILT on its SIDE. SO CRAZY! Anyway, yes, it’s true, Louis Sachar’s beloved series has been adapted into a play and Theatre IV is making it happen, now through February 15th. Show times range from 10am to 7pm, so check the performance schedule before buying your tickets. Empire Theater at 114 West Broad Street. Adult tickets are $22, and kids tickets are $17. BUT Theatre IV has a cleverly-named promotion going on called the Entertainment Stimulus Package, offering a limited number of $20 tickets at each performance.

Know of anything else going on this weekend? Leave them in the comments.

(If you’re planning an event that you’d like featured in 5 things, email them to me and they just might appear on a later post.)
