1. First Friday

Always a winner but somehow an easy thing to overlook. Quirk Gallery is getting famous for some of their business these days, so make sure and stop by there. Bring the toddlers and expand their malleable young minds or bring a date and buy them a present. Friday, 6ish-10

2. Soulpower RVA at Cous Cous

RVANews has much luv for these guys lately. Anyhow, last month their Cous Cous show was super tight, and I expect Saturday won’t be much different. Saturday, 10:30

3. Moonshine Exhibit at the Virginia Historical Society

Believed to be the largest exhibit ever mounted on moonshining in the United States, items on display include actual stills, a full-size diorama of a still operation, still makers’ tools, dozens of period photographs, video interviews with moonshiners and federal agents, documents, and additional memorabilia. Pretty stoked. Mon-Sat 10-5/Sun 1-5 through September 22 at the Virginia Historical Society

4. 2$ Drafts at Ipanema

Great beer, great bar, wonderful “not too loud” music, charming staff, and even more charming owner. Mondays from 10-12pm

5. Mike Gordon at Plan 9

So, he’s also playing at Toad’s the same night but that cost too much money for me, and plus nothing beats a good in-store. For those of you that don’t know, this is Phish’s bass player, wonderful vocalist and extravagantly unique musical voice. Tuesday at 1:00 pm
