Dudes! There’s so much great stuff happening this weekend! Festivals! Bands! Some of the best stuff our city has to offer. Check it…
1. Lamb of God at The National
Arguably the most successful band to come out of Richmond, Lamb of God is back in town to perform at our new, most favorite venue TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT! And if you’re super into them, they’re also doing a signing at Plan 9 this afternoon at 4:15pm. Thursday (that’s tonight!) 7pm, May 14th, 708 East Broad Street, $25 in advance, $28 at the door. Go here to buy tickets.
2. 25th Annual Lebanese Food Festival at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church
Now I know most of you are waiting until the Greek Festival to start off your spring/summer food festival gluttony, but I’ve got three words for you: stuffed grape leaves. Trust me. Plus, you’re guaranteed some great music and DANCING! Who doesn’t love dancing? Friday, May 15th through Sunday, 17th, 10am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday, 10am to 8pm on Sunday, 4611 Sadler Road, Free to get in!
3. Dominion Riverrock
It’s here! This thing has been on everyone’s mind since Dwight Jones & Co. announced it in March. The festivities start tomorrow afternoon and go until Sunday afternoon. Go here for a complete schedule of events. Looks like rain tomorrow which should make the Mud Run extra soupy! RVANews will be there taking video, so be sure to smile for the camera! Friday, May 15th through Saturday, May 16th, Brown’s Island, Free!
4. Foundation at The Camel
Rob Huddleston (of Ann Beretta) heads up this solo-ish act, along with “anyone else who happens to be around and interested in recording some songs and playing some shows” as the website says. With this project, he veers off the road of punk-rock and opts for a simpler, more folksy sound, resulting in some quality stuff. Also, I know this guy IRL and I must say that, in my opinion, he’s pretty much cooler than you and I and everyone we know will ever be. Joining him for the evening are The Wading Girl, Blacklist Royal, and Long Arms. Friday, May 15th, 8pm, 1621 W. Broad Street, $10.
5. Derby on the James at Skateland
I’m mildly obsessed/fascinate by the River City Rollergirls because seriously, IT’S ROLLER DERBY. Those ladies are tough/nuts! I mean that in the best possible way. Don’t believe me? Here’s a little video about them:
Yes. They scoot around on roller skates and knock the crap out of each other. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Join them this weekend for a showdown between Poe’s Punishers and the Carolina Hurticanes. Sunday, May 17th, 6:30pm, 5512 Hull Street Road, $10 when purchased at World of Mirth or Plan 9 or $12 at the door.
Know of anything else going on this week? Leave them in the comments.
(If you have an event coming up that you want help promoting, let us know. It just might end up making the list!)
