Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail, etc. etc. etc. It’s true. Easter is this weekend. But I’ll try not to bombard you with too many pastel-clad events.

1. Chicago at the Singleton Center for the Arts

Fosse, Fosse, Fosse! Bawdy dancing, murder, BOOZE. That’s about as non-Easter as you can get, depending on how you and yours roll. Opens Thursday (today!) April 9th, 7:30pm, 922 Park Avenue, $8 for students, $20 for general admission. Call 804-828-6026 for ticket info.

2. Cross The Line Fashion Show

See? No hopping bunnies to be found at this one, I’ll bet. But who knows? Fashion can be CRAZY. VCU senior Brittany Burke is the mastermind behind this one. The show will feature designs from fellow VCU students and other local designers. The event will include a silent auction, cash bar, and light hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds will benefit the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Friday, April 10th, 7pm to 9pm, DoubleTree Hotel, 301 West Franklin Street, $10 with your VCU student ID, $20 for general admission.

3. Strawberry Hill Races

Who doesn’t love an excuse to wear a big ol’ hat? Well, maybe you wouldn’t if you’re a dude. But regardless, hats just make an event seem more “fancy” and “proper.” And if you can’t make it to the race, you can listen to the action on 88.7FM. Saturday, April 11th, gates open at 9am, Colonial Downs in New Kent County. Go here for ticket information and race events.

4. Helicopter Easter Egg Drop at The Ridge Faith Community

THIS SOUNDS SO INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS! So naturally I will suggest that you take your children to it. They need to learn sometime, right? Word is that they drop literally thousands of candy-filled plastic Easter Eggs from a helicopter onto the lawn. And then I guess the kids just have at it to see who gets the most? Anyone want to go and take pictures? OR pose as a very large pre-teen and try to bogart all the goods? Just a suggestion. Sunday, April 12th, 10:25am EXACTLY, 5130 Woolridge Road in Moseley. Call 804-639-4777 for details.

5. Easter on Parade

I never understand why this is called “Easter on Parade” and not just “Easter Parade.” Are they going to be walking down Monument Avenue showing you The Easter? Oh well, I’m splitting hares (Did you see what I did there? HA! Comedic GENIUS over here!). This is one of those Richmond traditions that are just so hard to pass up. I mean, they have bonnet contests for people AND pets. C’MON! And of course they’ll have music, food, and stuff for kids (please, gimme some face painting, pleeeeeeeeease). Sunday, April 12th, 1pm to 5pm, Monument Avenue between Allen and Davis, free general admission. Call 804-788-6466 for more info.
