1. Harlem Globetrotters

As we all come down from CAA high and take a rest before March Madness begins, hows about we lighten things up with those crazy kooks, the Harlem Globetrotters? These Magicians of Basketball® have been around for EIGHTY TWO years, so clearly they know what they’re doing. Don’t believe me? I think a montage might be in order:

2. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead at the Henley Street Theatre

People have been losing their sh*t over this play since it debuted almost 40 years ago. For those of you not familiar with the concept, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two minor characters from Hamlet. This play flips the storyline of Hamlet around, telling it from their perspective. It’d kinda be like if the whole story arch of Battlestar Galactica was told from Racetrack and Skull’s point of view. Wow, I just alienated about 73% of our readership with that comparison. Anyway, the group at Henley Street is pushing the envelope a bit with this one by featuring an all female cast, which is sure to be interesting. Opens Thursday, March 12th (running through the 28th), 4901 Old Brook Road, $20. Go here to buy tickets.

3. Hawkins Family Reunion Show

You might be familiar with these guys and not know it. They’re the ones who recorded the 1969 hit “Oh Happy Day.” (Here’s a very 80s video of it to refresh your memory.) They’ll be performing at the Landmark this weekend to raise money for the Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church’s scholarship and renovation funds. Sure to be a night of some quality gospel music. Saturday, March 14th, 7pm, 6 N. Laurel Street, $45-$50. Go here for tickets.

4. Movies and Mimosas and Movieland: Maltese Falcon

I don’t know about you, but the concept of drinking champagne and orange juice while watching Humphrey Bogart on the big screen sounds just so decadent and wonderful. It makes me want to wear a mink and call everyone “daaaahh-ling.” And I mean, come on! The Maltese Falcon! Sam Spade! John Huston‘s directorial debut! Sunday, March 15th, 11am, $5.50 general admission, $4.50 for Criterion Club members (cost of drinks not included).

5. Selection Sunday

I’m not going to pretend to know anything about this other than that I know it’s a thing, I know it’s important, and I know it’s happening this Sunday. Go here for more info.
