Gone with the Wind plus. On Sunday The Byrd Theater will be showing Val’s childhood snow-day movie “Gone With the Wind,” with, instead of sausage biscuits like Val got, a champagne reception and discussion with University of Virginia professor Brian Wills starting at 1 pm. $25. 2908 W. Cary St. 804.353.9911.

Glows in the Dark plays the music of John Carpenter. Join Glows as they make their triumphant return to Commercial Taphouse, and present music from Horror Director John Carpenter (Halloween, The Fog, The Thing, Escape from New York.) They have taken some of their favorite Carpenter composed material, thrown it into a giant bag, mixed it, and reassembled it into an epic continuous journey (no this is not Jazz Odyssey much to David St. Hubbins’ delight.) More details on this process here. Sunday, 9:30pm, Free, Commercial Taphouse.

Gallery5 Halloween Party. The detes: All participating bands will perform cover songs throughout the whole evening. The Bands: Prabir and the Substitutes (all rock n roll sock hop tunes), David Shultz and the Skyline as “Full Moon” (A Tom Petty Cover Band), Even Better than the Real Thing (a U2 Cover Band) and more live music with special guest DJ Outsider (spinning rock and roll tunes for our dancing pleasure). Plus all the usual Halloween-y stuff….costumes, prizes etc. There’s a good chance that a U2 cover band will be better than the real thing. Friday, 8pm, $5, Gallery5 200 West Marshall.

Strike Anywhere and guests (Brainworms, Landmines, Stink Eyes) play a special election night show. Watch the election results projected on 2 walls while jumping off the stage and generally smashing into everybody. Tuesday, 7pm, $10 (Tickets in advance at Plan 9), Gallery5 200 W. Marshall St.
