When it comes to New Orleans brass players, Trombone Shorty is as real as it gets. Growing up, he was an active trombone player before his arms were long enough to reach all of the slide positions. Touring regularly, his band which blends funk, jazz and more traditional New Orleans sounds, has toured 5 continents, been nominated for a Grammy and has performed with people like Lenny Kravitz and Mos Def. For any HBO regulars, he has appeared on four episodes of Treme, a series based on his childhood neighborhood.
Featured this week on our jazz page, Glows in the Dark’s new record, Beach of the War Gods will be released next Tuesday May 24th. GITD combines jazz, improvisations, intricate film based compositions and a boundless imagination to create a one of a kind sound.
