Ombak’s long-standing Wednesday night gig at the popular Mediterranean and Moroccan restaurant Cous Cous is being discontinued by restaurant management, confirmed earlier this week by band leader Bryan Hooten. Hooten said management offered to host a farewell show but Ombak will not do it due to a schedule conflict.
The venue’s ridding of live music on Wednesday nights was halfway accomplished in October when Fight the Big Bull moved from Cous Cous to the new restaurant Balliceaux. In that case, Cous Cous asked that Fight the Big Bull play only monthly and, wishing to still play every two weeks, the band changed venues. Unlike Fight the Big Bull’s, Ombak’s discontinuation reportedly happened without negotiation between band and venue.
Hooten says about the band’s residency, “We understand it’s a business decision. It was great to play there as long as we did.” Cous Cous management did not respond to messages to comment.
