From The Brothers Burton

Scott says: They actually have a decent groove, in that “band you might hear at Innsbrook” kind of way. Showy R & B.

Taylor says: Not quite what I expected from a band called Swampp Dogg. I suppose I was looking for more Louisiana, but still solid. Very outdoor festival type music.

  1. The guy’s 70’s recordings are incredible. Check out his version of Prine’s, “Sam Stone”. Also, his live band doesn’t have that high pro glow that can be so annoyingly, “Innsbrookie”. This sample doesn’t do the man justice…

  2. Wait — could it really be that these “music experts” have never heard of Swamp Dogg, one of the most heralded deep soul producers and songwriters around? (And a solo performer, not a band.) A quick google search will yield far more insight.

  3. I was not familiar with his older stuff, and listened to about 10 of his newer recordings. The newer stuff definitely had the Innsbrook outdoor vibe to me. I think it’s all the brand new equipment that does it.

  4. I guess that kind of thing can happen when you have been playing for so long. I remember seeing Earth Wind and Fire with a bunch of new members and had kind of the same vibe (not so much musically, but in terms of general sound). I will say though that the cover to “Rat On!” is probably the greatest thing of all time. http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/gallery/2004/11/04/g1dogg.jpg
