Weather! Hot weather before weekend rain chances

Despite some rain the last two days, we’ve only made a very small dent in the rainfall deficit. Clear skies and warm temperatures are the story for the rest of the week.

We’ve had some much-needed rain both Monday and Tuesday this week. The official climate reporting station at Richmond International Airport received a bit less rain that the western portion of the area, so we only officially received 0.58” of rain since Monday. We’re still significantly short on rain for the year; our departure from average is currently -5.11”. We’ve only gotten 1.42” of rain since June 1, which is more than four inches below what we receive on average. We’ve exhausted our chances for rain for the short term, and we’re looking at warm, dry days in the meantime.

For both Thursday and Friday, we’re looking at mostly clear skies with high temperatures in the mid 90s. We’ll see some fair-weather cumulus clouds and bright sunshine. Humidity levels will keep heat index values close to 100. Nighttime lows will fall into the mid 70s.

Squirrelcast (vs Bowie, 7:05pm both days): The Baysox make another trip to Richmond, and there will be great weather for another Squirrels beatdown. First pitch temperatures will be in the upper 80s under mostly clear skies, falling to the upper 70s to near 80 by game’s end.

Another cold front makes its way from the west over the weekend, giving us our next real chance to make a dent in the drought. I’ll have a weekend forecast, including the latest report from the US Drought Monitor, on Friday.
