Henrico County Public Schools has announced a batch of awards given out by Governor Bob McDonnell and the Virginia Department of Education. These awards were given out to high-performing Virginia schools and school divisions.

All of the 2012 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence recipients went to West End schools, including Echo Lake Elementary, Gayton Elementary, Nuckols Farm Elementary, Rivers Edge Elementary, Shady Grove Elementary, Short Pump Elementary and Tuckahoe Elementary.

Schools that received the 2012 Board of Education Excellence Awards include Arthur Ashe Jr. Elementary, Colonial Trail Elementary, Glen Allen Elementary, Greenwood Elementary, Jackson Davis Elementary, Pemberton Elementary, Springfield Park Elementary, Three Chopt Elementary and Twin Hickory Elementary.

2012 Board of Education Competence to Excellence Awards went to Chamberlayne Elementary, Douglas S. Freeman High, Mills E. Godwin High and Ridge Elementary.

“I congratulate the educators in these schools and divisions for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence and to the success of their students,” McDonnell said. “They put students first and maintain high expectations for instruction, learning and student achievement.”

“These recognitions represent the hard work of our students and staff across the school division and we congratulate all the award recipients,” said Dr. Pat Russo, superintendent of Henrico County Public Schools. “Their commitment to excellence will help us reach our goal and vision of becoming the premier school division in the United States.”
