The late signing period for college basketball started on Wednesday. It runs through May 20. VCU’s new head coach of men’s basketball, Shaka Smart, has been highly praised for his recruiting skills. With at least two scholarships in hand, now we’ll see about that.
While the Rams are looking strong enough at positions two through five, Eric Maynor’s departure has left a hole at point guard. Now, with the departure of Joey Rodriguez, the hole just got bigger. Who will Smart sign to bring the ball down court and pass it to Larry Sanders, Brad Burgess, et al?
Well, I don’t have the inside scoop, but I expect that Smart and his new staff will pull a rabbit or maybe two out of the hat. Judging from what Smart has said since arriving at VCU, those rabbits had better like to run.
