VUU defeated Barton College, 2007 Div II National Champions, 100-91 on the first day of the Pickle Classic.
Friday’s contest marked the first-ever match-up of former national champions in the history of the Pickle Classic. Barton won the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship, while Virginia Union won its most recent national championship in 2005, the same year Mount Olive reached the Elite Eight.
However the Panthers lost a close one Sunday night to the Pickle Classic’s hosts, Mt. Olive. Final score was 81-76. Branden McDonald was named to the All Tournament Team.
The Panthers are back in action tonight at Saint Augustine’s College — tip is at 7.30pm. This Saturday, the 28th, they’ll play their first home match-up against Fayetteville State University.
VUU is 1-2 on the season.
