A new corporate program is bringing free vision screenings to local businesses. Yesterday, the Virginia Eye Institute launched a program that offers free eye exams and consultations. The kickoff was held at the SnagAJob.com headquarters in Innsbrook.

“Vision screenings are important to determine if there are any vision problems that people may not be aware they have, some of which can be fixed with glasses,” Dr. Laura P. Greene, who performed the screenings yesterday, said. “It is also important to get a complete dilated eye exam to determine if there are any ocular health issues that the patient may not be aware of so that permanent vision loss can be avoided.”

Considering the number of hours most Americans spend online every day, computer-related vision problems are increasingly prevalent, according to Greene. In fact, computer vision syndrome is a more commonly reported disorder than carpal tunnel syndrome in the workplace, as reported by the Society for Human Resource Management.

The screening program follows an announcement by Virginia Eye Institute last month that the organization is building a 16,000 square foot comprehensive care facility in Towne Center West, near Short Pump Town Center.

Companies can schedule program visits by contacting Jane Broadbent at (804) 287–4701 or broadbentj@vaeye.com.
