In the three weeks since its release, a new “HuntFishVa” app already had been downloaded more than 2,300 times, according to Andy Thompson of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Everything a hunter or angler might need to know out in the field or on the water is at his or her fingertips.

No longer will hunters need to call the game department and whisper queries into cell phones, because the DGIF recently became the first state agency to release a smartphone application, one that answers questions such as “What’s the season on foxes?”

“HuntFishVa” works on iPods and iPads and is a free download at the iTunes store.
