A toy drive organized by students of the Union-PSCE Service Committee will support William’s Christmas Kids Foundation, a local non-profit organization that gives toys to children living in the area’s poorest neighborhoods and terminally ill children throughout the Tri-Cities area.

As part of the outreach, nearly 300 children will select from 1,000 toys at a Christmas Festival held by William’s Christmas Kids Foundation on December 12 at the Mayflower Moving Company Warehouse in South Richmond. The warehouse will be transformed into a winter wonderland with Santa in attendance. This year’s goal for the foundation is to give gifts to 500 children throughout the season.

“With such a large goal, I needed more people to volunteer. It was important to involve the seminary students in being able to provide toys for the kids,” said Jones.

Community service is a part of the preparation for ministry at Union-PSCE. It introduces students to opportunities to touch the lives of others in the surrounding area and embody the spirit of service. Thanks to the generosity of the Union-PSCE community in support of William’s work, he will have many gifts to bring joy to the lives of children in need.

Since 1985, William Jones and William’s Christmas Kids Foundation has been essentially a one-person operation of love. With the help of a few volunteers, he raises funds and collects toys throughout the year to assure that some of the community’s most venerable children have a happy Christmas.

Union-PSCE (soon to be Union Presbyterian Seminary) offers graduate degree programs on campuses in Richmond, Va., and Charlotte, N.C., to prepare men and women for Christian ministries. Founded in 1812, it is one of ten theological seminaries of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
