Local maternity boutique It’s Hip to be Round and eco-friendly retailer MonkeyGrass, both locally owned retailers, are joining forces to offer environmentally friendly baby gifts and gear. It’s Hip to be Round owner Anne Kennon was looking to expand the baby gift selection to include fun and practical items, but wanted to be sure they were also safe and eco-friendly.
“I had an idea of what I wanted, but it’s an entirely different market-both in purchasing and selling.” Kennon met up with Cindy Bennett, owner of MonkeyGrass, and the two started brainstorming. Bennett was already operating an online store, but wanted a bricks and mortar presence where she could expand on her baby and toddler offerings. “I know that It’s Hip to be Round has the customer base who appreciates the quality and eco-consciousness of what I have to offer. Gifts that are good for kids and the planet are becoming more and more important to our customers.”
MonkeyGrass specializes in green toys, gear and gifts for newborns to youngsters. The products aren’t just labeled “green,” but are specifically researched and hand-picked for their safety, quality and eco-friendliness.
MonkeyGrass has operated online since 2007, and was previously located in-store at the Shops at 5807. MonkeyGrass now operates exclusively within both locations of It’s Hip to be Round. The stores are celebrating a grand opening April 24-25, 2010.
