Two new developments, just about right across the street from one another, are on the horizon. The already established Towne Center West is about to break ground on a new phase, and nearby complex The Corner at Short Pump is underway with a new 86,000 upscale Kroger that’s about seventy-five percent complete.

In the Towne Center West development, both Blue Ridge Mountain Sports and Plaza Azteca are coming to the second phase. Founded in 1972, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports’ 12 other locations serve as the outfitter for the Blue Ridge Mountains from New Jersey to Virginia and Tennessee. Plaza Azteca also boasts 12 existing locations, and serves a blend of authentic Mexican cuisines.

“We are pleased to welcome Blue Ridge Mountain Sports and Plaza Azteca to Towne Center West”  Ramon W. Breeden, Jr., company founder and chairman of the board, “This growth is a dynamic addition to the town center, offers vitality to Richmond and is a promising sign of economic recovery.”

The Corner at Short Pump, at Lauderdale and Broad, is finally showing signs of life after remaining dormant for some time. The new Kroger is now under roof and nearing exterior completion. Construction on the rest of the shopping center’s buildings should begin relatively soon.
