The holidays are just around the corner, and the fun family events are already ramping up! From a fascinating look into the history of Thanksgiving and the annual lighting of the Short Pump Town Center Christmas tree to local improv comedy and live theatre, there’s something to suit any family’s tastes!

1. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang performed by CYT

Friday, November 19 through Sunday, November 28

For the first time ever, the exciting classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bangcomes to the CYT stage! Based on the book by Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, written for his son, the much loved 1968 film was part of everyone’s childhood. A sensational score by the renowned Sherman Brothers includes such unforgettable songs asTruly Scrumptious, Toot Sweets, Hushabye Mountain, and, of course, its Oscar-nominated title song Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

2. Short Pump Town Center Grand Illumination

Friday, November 19

Join Short Pump Town Center for the Grand Illumination of their 50 foot Holiday Tree! Holiday Characters will also be there. Come in your PJ’s! Radio Disney will be there and Susan Greenbaum will be performing.

3. A Victorian Holiday at Maymont

A Victorian Holiday at Maymont will be a memory we should all hold onto! Lavish Tree trimmings, incredible decorations, games and activities from an 1893 Christmas.

4. The History of Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 20

Learn how Thanksgiving was celebrated 150 years ago. In 1863 President Lincoln made a Proclamation of Thanksgiving! This should be a great way to bring some history and new tradition to this great holiday!

5. HATTheatre Stand up & Improv

Friday, November 19 through Saturday, November 20

Comedy Show Premiere featuring Stand-up and Improv Comedy – All audiences veteran comedic talent hits the HATTheatre stage bringing the funny to audiences. The group needs a name! You could name the troupe and win tickets! The all audiences show will have stand-up comic John Porter, Richmond comedy virtuoso who has been performing comedy for over 30 years. Afterwards the soon-to-be-named improv comedy troupe will be performing a short-form blitz similar to Whose Line is It Anyway featuring audience suggestions. This is the only improv show in Richmond for families of all ages!

  • Who: Friday is open to all ages, Saturday is suited more towards mature audiences
