The Birds (1963; 119 min), by master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock, is possibly one of the greatest and creepiest thrillers of all time and such a beautifully executed film to boot. Tippi Hedren, the film’s leading lady, helps us kick off our Hollywood Costume exhibition with a celebration of The Birds’ 50th anniversary. The iconic moss-green, two-piece dress Ms. Hedren wore in The Birds is one of the costumes featured in the exhibition.

Not only will we be showing the film, but following the screening, Professor Gweneth West, Head of Costume Design at the University of Virginia, will lead a Q&A with Ms. Hedren about her experiences as the trademark “cool blonde” in Hitchcock’s The Birds and Marnie (1964).
