On Tuesday, check out Wabi Sabi’s half priced tapas from 5 to 9, plus $1 beers! We went last week with friends, saw some more friends while there, and had a great time sampling many tapas. All the food was excellent! Keep this in mind for a pleasurable Tuesday evening routine.
Friday for the Arts comes around again on Sept. 11. I will be out of town again, and probably can’t post the schedule. **** ART UNDERFOOT – A collaboration of the City of Petersburg, area artisans, residents Kimberly Ann Calos, Gail McCann, Mark Pehanich and Barry Roebuck and sponsors Franklin Development Group, LLC and Palmore Decorating Center
What better way to stop Petersburg’s cracking sidewalk problem than to brighten them up with original works of art created by some of the premier artists around?
From now until September 11th, artists may sign up to have their talents immortalized on concrete. The painting will take place daily from Saturday, September 13th thru Saturday October 2nd, 2009 and will be “unveiled” on Friday for the Arts, October 9th, 2009.
The art will adorn the sidewalks on much of the 200 block of N. Sycamore Street between Bank and Tabb Streets.
On Saturday, October 10th, from noon until 4, the sidewalk artists will sell their other art forms during the ART UNDERFOOT ART FAIR. Rain date is Sunday, October 11th from noon until 4pm.

**** The Great American Chili Smack Down! Calling Tri-Cities area 501-C3 Non-profits organizations.
The Petersburg Kiwanis Breakfast Club challenges your best Chile Cooks to participant in The Great American Chili Smack Down during the Fall Family Fun Festival – October 17, 2009. Put your team together for a great day of fun and competition. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category.
The entry fee is $25.00 and space is limited to the first 25 entries. Ticket price is $6.00 per adult, children 10yrs and under are free. The proceeds will support the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund. Serious Chili eaters can purchase their favorite Chili by the Qt. ($6.00) (booth keep the proceeds)

**** Antiques Jamboree & 2nd Annual Appraisal Fair – Saturday, September 19
Hosted by the Battersea Foundation at Battersea, an Anglo-Palladian villa built in 1768 by a founding father, Colonel John Banister, one of the signers of the Articles of Confederation.
30 – 40 selected antique dealers will bring items for sale
Antique appraisers of note will be at Battersea to identify, authenticate, explain and appraise your collectibles including: furniture, dolls, art work, militaria, glassware, porcelain, silver, sports collectibles and items from many other genres.
There will be a $5.00 admission fee to the jamboree. The jamboree will be open from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm with a $10.00 “early bird” fee for admission at 8:00 am. **** Did you know Petersburg’s cemeteries were once segregated by race and religion? A walking tour entitled
“People’s Memorial Cemetery: African American Heritage” will be conducted
Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 7:00pm.
The tour will begin at the cemetery itself. Please park on Mingea or St. Andrews Streets. The forty-five minute tour will explore the history of the cemetery and will feature interesting stories of some of the burial grounds’ permanent residents. Tour participants will be encouraged to share family histories as well.
