2010 St.John’s Reenactment Series

The Patrick Henry Committee invites you to bring your friends and family to a reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. In the presence of Washington, Jefferson, and other notable Virginians, Patrick Henry delivered his passionate call for liberty, uttering the immortal words, “Give me liberty or give me death!” These events are free and open to the public. Councilwoman Cynthia Newbille will be hosting a community meeting on Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at 6:00PM at the Family Resource Center located at 2405 Jefferson Avenue to obtain feedback on the CAR Recommendations. Councilman Bruce Tyler and City Staff will be present to review and discuss the CAR Recommendations. This is an opportunity to provide feedback on the recommendations prior to a paper going to City Council.

Lemonaid for Haiti

CHAT and East End Fellowship are hosting a lemonade stand featuring freshly baked homemade chocolate chip cookies. “Proceeds will help build a house for a displaced family in Haiti Our goal is $1200! Prices are $1.00 for a giant cookie, $0.50 for lemonade, and $0.50 for two small cookies. Lemonade and Cookies will be available at Leigh St. and 25th St. and next to the 25th Street Post Office from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday August 2 through Friday August 6. What is better than some cold lemonade with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies?

East End Transformation Charrette follow-up meeting

Councilwoman Newbille will hold a meeting in Richmond’s East End 7th District to discuss and review the preliminary draft report that was written to encompass the results of the seven-day Richmond Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan – Community Planning “Charrette” held in June. The meeting will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010, from 10:30AM- noon at the East District Initiative Building (701 N. 25th Street).

From the press release:

The Richmond Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan – Community Planning “Charrette” was held in the East End 7th District during a seven day period from June 1-7, 2010. This series of community meetings involved nearly 2,000 residents and stakeholders and included Councilwoman Newbille, Mayor Dwight Jones, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), and Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital. The goal of these meetings is to create a vision and plan for the revitalization of the Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor in Richmond’s Historic East End.
In preparing this plan, the consultant company DPZ was hired to assist with facilitating the Charrette and preparing reports to aid in producing a Richmond Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan.
