Sarah Singh will appear in-person to introduce her courageous and award-winning documentary film of the 1947 Partition of the Indian Subcontinent. With her life in the hands of strangers and sometimes gunmen, Ms. Singh traveled from the desert of Kutch to the snowy mountains of Kashmir and from the seaside city of Karachi to the spare but volatile terrain of the Khyber Pass. Lyrically shot on both sides of the “Indo-Pak” border, The Sky Below offers a strong local ethos communicated through the music, language, and people. The Sky Below was the official film presentation at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London with the exhibition: Maharaja: The Splendors of India’s Great King, now at VMFA.

There will be post-film discussion between Ms. Singh and VMFA Trustee Dr. Shantaram Talegaonkar with audience Q&A.

July 13, Friday, 6:30-9 pm, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

$8 ($5 VMFA Members) at 804.340.1405 or www.VMFA.museum.
