High winds and relatively dry air on Monday provided the perfect breeding grounds for fire activity in the region, prompting a Fire Weather Watch. More than a dozen brush fires were reported in Henrico County alone throughout the day, most of which were in the eastern half of the county, but fire crews were called to Short Pump Town Center for reports of a fire just after noon.

The origin of the fire was not available at press time. Several readers sent us photos of the smoke-filled parking lot.

The small fire started in a landscaping island directly in front of The Cheesecake Factory and Orvis, near the main entrance of the mall.

Henrico Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire. No word on whether any vehicles were damaged.
