A police pursuit Tuesday afternoon that started at Short Pump Town Center ended in a single vehicle crash near The Colonies residential development. According to Henrico Police, an off-duty officer working security for the Short Pump Dillard’s at 11800 West Broad Street witnessed a woman stuffing jewelry into bags. When the officer confronted her, she fled with a male suspect and led police on a chase down Lauderdale Drive.

The two-and-a-half mile pursuit ended when the pair took a right onto Causeway Drive and slammed into a fence. The male suspect fled on foot but was captured by police a short time later after a brief struggle.

Both individuals suffered non life-threatening injuries when their SUV veered off the road, and were taken to VCU Medical Center.

Causeway Drive remained closed for at least an hour after the incident.

The male suspect has been charged with felony assault of a police officer, felony eluding of police and resisting arrest. The female so far has only been charged with grand larceny, but police say more charges are pending.
